After a wonderful Spring Concert Season “The Alpine Adventure” the 100+ members of the Georgia Festival Chorus begin their summer hiatus. Members are traveling, singing in summer choruses and generally relaxing through the hot summer months that will culminate in our September 3rd first rehearsal date for the fall season. Christmas will be just around the corner!!
Many of us remember the cool mountain air and snowy mountain ranges in Switzerland and Austria where the chorus enjoyed a most memorable concert tour of three countries and where we sang several concerts in small churches, a retirement/care center and some impressive cathedrals. There were times when we could see our breath in those cathedrals because it was COLD.
Mondsee Cathedral is where the von Trapp wedding took place in the Sound of Music. This photo shows some of our Choir members making their way to the entrance where we sang. Unforgettable.
Auditions for new members will begin at 7:00 PM Tuesday September 3rd at First Baptist Church Smyrna at 1275 Church Street SE Smyrna GA 30080-3595. Watch for Signs at the lower level parking area.
The members of The Georgia Festival are rehearsing some fabulous music. One of my favorites is Gesu Bambino by Yon. Musical selections feature several composers, Bradford and Rutter. These composers present fresh and interesting interpretations of old favorites. I’m sure you will agree when you hear them.
Dear GFC members or prospective members,
Put it on your calendar: At our first fall rehearsal/auditions on September 4th, 2012, at Piedmont Church at 7:00 p.m., there will be a full presentation on our April 2013 Alpine Adventure concert tour.
Hope to see you there.
Summer is a time to take care of yourself. -Travel, visit friends, exercise, go to concerts, read a classic novel, write a letter, right a wrong, smile at strangers, try a new recipe, plant a seed, and just take time to relax and rejuvenate.
The Georgia Festival Chorus invites you to consider joining us this fall. If you are interested, go to the Contact Us tab for more information. You will be spiritually ministered.
Once again, Susan McDonald is organizing a year end party to celebrate the wonderful conclusion of this year’s beautiful music performances. It’s a chance to invite prospective members and friends of the chorus who regularly attend our concerts. Time is around 6:45 at Piedmont Church. Bring a covered dish to share. Hope to see everyone there.
The Georgia Festival Chorus continues rehearsing for the Spring concerts with joy and hard work. There are many new pieces, such as I Am (Hilliard and Michael W. Smith) and some old favorites like O Bone Jesu (Palestrina). To feed the heart and soul (my favs) are a few spirituals: Set Down Servant (Shaw) and Give Me Jesus (Fleming).
Come join us in one or more of our concerts listed on the Concerts tab. Include a concert in your Must-Do’s list.
